Sustainable comfort for The Belfry Hotel & Resort, UK
Expanding with sustainability in focus
The Belfry Hotel & Resort in the UK is expanding its facilities with a new, state-of-the-art swimming pool complex as a part of an £80 million investment in performance, guest comfort and sustainability. The project aims to achieve a BREEAM Excellence sustainability rating, a certification that recognises buildings with outstanding environmental performance.
Meeting complex heating and cooling demands
The new facilities place high demands on both capacity and precision. The swimming pool complex requires stable indoor temperatures, large volumes of domestic hot water, and efficient cooling to manage varying guest activity and ambient conditions. At the same time, the installation area was limited, requiring a compact and flexible system layout without compromising on performance.
To meet these challenges, six 90 kW air-to-water heat pumps from Energy Save’s commercial platform were selected, supported by two 3000-litre buffer vessels to secure consistent output and handle peak loads.
The intelligent control system continuously balances energy use, storing heat when electricity prices are low and delivering it when demand rises. This ensures high seasonal efficiency and a reliable supply of heating, cooling, and hot water all year round.
The system achieves an A++ energy rating and a COP of up to 4.5, operating efficiently in outdoor temperatures from –25 °C to +45 °C.
Close collaboration for a successful result
The installation is carried out by Modutherm, in cooperation with the project consultant and Energy Save’s technical team.
“The collaboration between the installer, consultant, and our technical team ensured a smooth process and an excellent outcome,” says Brett Stokes, Specification Area Sales Manager at Modutherm.
This partnership has been key to delivering a solution that meets both the technical and sustainability targets of the project.
A step toward long-term energy efficiency
With the new system in operation, The Belfry is well equipped for a future of low-carbon, energy-efficient heating and cooling. The project highlights how Energy Save’s large-scale heat pump solutions combine performance, flexibility and control to meet complex demands in commercial applications – supporting customers in their transition to sustainable energy.

Belfrey Hotel is an example of how hotels can combine comfort and sustainability by investing in low-carbon energy solutions.
