FAQ
What does it mean when a heat pump uses propane as a refrigerant?
Some heat pumps use a special type of propane, called R-290, inside the unit to help move heat. It’s not burned like regular propane for heating or cooking. Instead, it works in a closed loop to absorb and release heat, helping the heat pump warm or cool your home.
Why is this good for the environment?
- Very low climate impact: R-290 has almost no global warming effect compared to older refrigerants.
- Natural and non-toxic: It’s a natural gas with no ozone damage.
- Energy-efficient: It helps the heat pump run more efficiently, using less electricity and reducing your carbon footprint.
And don’t worry, only a very small amount is used, and heat pumps are built with safety in mind.
What size heat pump do I need?
It depends on the size of the house, it’s layout, insulation, and climate. A qualified installer will assess your space and recommend the right system. Find a reseller.
